When the frame and the drawing disagree

Why this one is different
Nearly every defect argument turns on tolerance, and tolerance arguments take months. This is a comparison: the drawing sets out an arrangement of members, brackets and bolts, and the frame either has it or it does not.
What was recorded
Connection is not matching with engineering, at high severity, at a timber external beam or lintel on an Austral frame inspection.
The usual cause
A member that did not arrive, or a bracket substituted because it was on the truck. Neither is dishonest and both are undocumented, which is the problem.
The proper resolution
An alternative detail confirmed in writing by the engineer who drew the original. That closes it. A supervisor saying it is equivalent does not.
What an investigation adds
It takes the single item, records the built condition and the drawn condition side by side, and states the difference, so nobody has to argue about adjectives.
