Why it matters here

Slab pre-pour inspections on Catherine Field builds

The slab carries the house, and its engineering lives in things that vanish under concrete: beam geometry, reinforcement, cover, the vapour barrier and the set downs. A shower recess set down that is wrong at the pour is a tiler's problem months later and an owner's problem for years after that. The photographs below were taken in Leppington, Oran Park or Austral, between two and eight kilometres from Catherine Field, and each caption names its suburb. We would rather tell you that than let another job pass as a local one.

What we find at this stage in Catherine Field

  • Vapour barrier interrupted beneath the slab
  • Cover to reinforcement under the minimum
  • Beam geometry not agreeing with the engineering
  • Shower and wet area set downs not formed
  • Penetrations set out in the wrong places

FAQ

Slab pre-pour inspections in Catherine Field: common questions

Why does the set down matter so much?

A wet area floor has to fall to its waste, and the fall starts with the concrete. Get the set down wrong and the tiler is left building a slope out of adhesive, which is where flat spots and ponding water come from.

Can any of this be checked afterwards?

Only what is on the surface. Everything beneath the slab stops being verifiable the second the concrete is placed.

What if the concrete gets pushed back a week?

We simply attend on the new date and charge nothing more.

How long is the visit?

An hour to ninety minutes on a standard lot, with the report out that evening because the truck comes in the morning.

Do you look at penetrations?

Yes. Moving a waste before the pour costs minutes; moving it afterwards means cutting concrete.

What should I send across?

The engineering for the lot, along with the soil report behind it.
